Jonkmanshof, Montagu

In the heart of the Western Little Karoo lies Montagu.  This small town, famous for their dried fruit and nuts, also boasts a large variety of accommodation and activities.

My favourite part of it all is staying at the incredible Jonkmanshof whenever I visit this quaint town.  The restored Cape Dutch heritage house is the oldest inhabited house in the town.

On arrival you are welcomed by high ceilings and wooden floors.  The house features contemporary South African art mixed with 18th century cape furniture.  As you walk into the lounge, it flows into the ever-beautiful farmhouse-style kitchen, perfect for creating the “home-away-from-home” feeling.

Spending time in the beautiful glass conservatory, admiring all the indigenous succulents and sipping on some chardonnay is what I call a perfect day.

The garden is oh-so-beautiful!  Surrounded by potted citrus, a raised swimming pool, tortoises and chickens, it really feels like you are on a farm whilst relaxing in the heart of Montagu.

The bedrooms fitted with king-size four-poster beds dressed in pure Italian linen and goose down makes for the perfect luxurious night’s rest. The bath in suite one is my ultimate favourite!  Simply because I LOVE a good view.  The bathroom overlooks the potted citrus and creates a very romantic and relaxing atmosphere.

Dining at Jonkmanshof is optional and at additional cost – however, it is highly recommended that you book, as you will definitely have a feast!  All dinners are prepared with the best local and seasonal produce from the vegetable garden and will soothe your tastebuds.

Breakfast at Jonkmanshof is not to be taken lightly. Bright colours, amazing flavours and freshly brewed coffee is definitely something I would love to wake up to every morning.

This place is a hidden gem and oh, so worth the visit.  Let me know if you have been or planning on going?  I would love to hear.

Until next time.
